Episode 2 - Surfin' Man!

Well, some folks seemed to have enjoyed the live format of the Platter Party! program, so here we are for a second episode. Since we're experiencing something of a heatwave here in Minnesota, I thought it was prime weather to dust the sand and sea salt off the box of surf and surf-adjacent 45s and give those a spin for today's show.

Slather on your sunscreen, grab your tiny transistor radio and put on your baggies, because today on Party Platter! we're hitting the beach!

Episode Seven - Stocking Stuffed With Fun!

Hey everybody!  That's right, back from hiatus and ready to spin the platters again! I did honestly consider doing a Christmas-themed show, for about all of ten seconds, but to be honest it's kind of my least favorite kind of music. I would rather be subjected to Christian rock and early 2000's emo for sixteen consecutive hours, than listen to bland seasonal songbook of your in-store-muzak variety. Are there some great Christmas tunes? Yeah, a few. Maybe there are some fun lost gems I'm missing out on, but overall, it's a bleak plateau. All that aside, I decided to forego any sort of genre conventions this time around and do a mixed bag, all in the spirit of cultivating a fun 90 minutes or so. Playlist below! 1) The Surfaris - Point Panic (Decca, 1963) 2) Devo - Find Out (Warner Bros., 1982)   3) Gene Simmons - Hey, Hey Little Girl (Hi, 1964)   4) De John Sisters - Hotta Chocolotta (Epic, 1956)   5) The Bongos - Zebra Club (Fetish, 1982)   6) Googie Rene -...

Episode Five - Hang On!

Come on, come on down the steps to the latest episode of Platter Party! Have your I.D. ready, as this episode is a somewhat adult-oriented affair.  We'll step down, below street level, and pass through the bat-wing saloon doors, into the swanky world of leopard print and novelty swizzle sticks! That's right, folks. This time were staging the soundtrack to a mid-century burlesque show / strip club!
