The Revillos "She's Fallen In Love With A Monster Man" b/w "Mind Bending Cutie Doll" Superville 1981
From the ashes of the mighty Rezillos! come The Revillos! Who are The Revillos?, you might ask. It's not an unexpected question, but a stunning example of how unfairly the chips fall in the fickle music biz. If there were a kind and courteous God in whatever afterlife scenario you might subscribe to, then The Revillos would have been as big as Duran Duran and we'd be hearing them on '80s flashback radio, sandwiched between Tears For Fears and the Psychedelic Furs. It's true they do have a fervent following, and rightly so.
Think of them as a more cartoonish Cramps who were less Russ Meyer and more American International Pictures and Marvel comics. Hailing from Edinburgh, Scotland, the group formed in the ashes of the equally fantastic Rezillos, which also featured front talent Fay Fife and Eugene Reynolds.
The A-side of this sizzling single of comic book punkabilly we get the woeful tale of a heartbroken beau whose gal leaves him for a movie screen monster. The flipside of this single presents a Fay Fife-penned pogo-er about her swingin' stylish guy!
If this is your first exposure to the magic of the Revillos, then I envy you. Since the A-side has a music video associated with it, and a fun one, I've not uploaded any audio but linked the video above, which even features a little introductory blurb from Eugene Reynolds beforehand!
Is it Punk? Is it New Wave? Is it Indie Pop? Who cares? It's The Revillos!
